They might be cute, but keep your distance.

Water Ruins

Today's warm up sketch is inspired by an actual ruin: Mandu, Madhya Pradesh, City in India. Not the typical art style I approach these days, but was fun anyhow. No retreat, no surrender.

International Dog Day

August 26th marks international dog day. So go pet some dogs. They give so much and ask for so little.

The Wire

One of television's famous couches. There are a lot illustrated graphs online, so naturally one with tv's most famous couches is an inevitable concept.

Cardobard Fort

Remember the days a simple cardboard box encouraged hours of creative imagination? It's been studied that reenacting childhood events creates positive brain function. Don't forget, it's fun too.

Money Can't Buy Dogs Happiness

It's one of those mornings where getting inspired is harder than usual. It happens to everybody, yet we pull through, hold our complaints, and have some fun.

A warm up today inspired by Robh Ruppel's tutorial found here at Parka Blogs. Robh Ruppel is a fantastic, graphic, digital artist. I have been a fan since early days in college and still get inspired by his approach and how simple he keeps his elements at first. A great example to take a step back and keep things minimum and push for a nice style while not conforming to the first drawing.

A pet cow named Roza I never had met who lived long before my time. The cow was treated as a pet and was loved dearly. Walks among hills and mountains with her owner will forever live in Earth's mighty book of lost time.

Hello Earth

Choose tea instead of coffee for a happy afternoon tummy and immune system. Coffee is good too, but remember, tea is your buddy.

The Giraffes are Coming to Town!

Giraffes are the subject of my next commission painting due in a couple weeks. This particular piece has nothing to do with the upcoming work, but sketching giraffes in the coming days certainly gets me a little more prepared and used to the shapes and form. Illustrating animals is one of my weaknesses which I am always trying to improve on.

Meeting Point

It has been a long time since I had used gouache paint for anything. Yet after a long week of mainly digital art, mainly animating which is all a different tale, it was time to bust out the ol' paints and push them around somewhat. I wanted to practice the technique that master painter Eyvind Earle uses. I did up a few compositions of my own and began to lay down large sections of blocked in paint followed by multiple dabs of color specs using a torn sponge. I had a blast.

Cozy Place

A historic cabin in the woods fireplace in the Mt. Hood area. Lovely place with so much character.

Sea of Giants

It's easy to strive for the next big thing sometimes and forget to take a step back once in a while. Illustration is an up hill climb that has a most fantastic view at the top. Don't hurry to see the view, yet enjoy the journey to get there.

Happy Holidays

Stay safe and have an extraordinary holiday season. A little nod to one of my favorite picture book artists. I would tell you who it is, but it's "Klassenfied" information.

A Foxy Day

It has been quite the foxy time around here. Been working on a couple new projects including our second book for Storytime Works. We are really excited to put on the finishing touches for print preparations and send it off to the land where ink, color, paper and binding magically merge into book form. Here are a few fox sketches that are unrelated to any new projects. Just needed to work out a few exercises.
